Bill Austen is retired Qantas captain. As a Qantas trainee, he gained the highest air navigator qualification available as well as the highest airline pilot qualifications. He flew as an instructor on all sorts of light aircraft before flying DC3s and business jets. He then operated big jets internationally for forty years. The whole world was his workplace and he did in fact travel the equivalent of 500 times around it. He lives in Sydney Australia with Bronwyn, his partner of nearly 50 years. His two children live nearby.
